Sunbrero is a "sunblock lotion" that effectively reflects UVA rays (which cause wrinkling) and UVB rays (which cause sunburn and skin cancer) giving the skin broad-spectrum ultraviolet protection. Extensive research was undertaken in the formulation of Sunbrero to make it extremely effective and safe. It has a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30+. Also incorporated into Sunbrero's formulation are 20 times the normal level of special Vitamin C complexes. This extremely high level may help lead to a reduction in the body's inflammatory response from UVB ray exposure.

How to use

Apply before sun exposure.

Re-apply every 2 to 3 hours while exposed to the sun.

For best protection (since Sunbrero is water-resistant but not water-proof) it is important to re-apply Sunbrero after swimming or perspiring.

Works well with

  • Rebound - the body's ability to recover from UV exposure by adding needed moisture to the skin. 125.0 ml (#2501)
  • Renu - supports health and vitality of body systems with natural herbs and vital amino acids that cannot be produced by the body. 81.0 ct. (#1081)

Detailed product description

Neways has developed skin care products that truly work with the delicate processes of cleansing, supplementing and balancing. The goal is to enjoy beautiful, radiant, healthy skin.

Sunbrero's water-resistant formula inhibits loss of protection due to perspiration or water contact. However, Sunbrero is water-resistant (meaning that ingredients were added to make the SPF last longer on the body, even in water) but Sunbrero is not water-proof, so it is important to re-apply Sunbrero after going in the water or when perspiring.

Why is UV, UVA and UVB protection important? UVA rays often destroy elastin thereby causing wrinkles and thick, leathery skin. UVB rays may contribute to sunburn and skin cancer. Lotions that block the sun, often referred to as "sunblock" lotions, reflect harmful UV rays which can help keep the skin cooler and keep UV rays from penetrating into the deeper layers of the skin where UV damage is most serious. Sunbrero is a "sunblock" lotion.

Ultraviolet radiation transmitted from 93,000,000 miles away is the prime culprit in about 90 percent of all cases of skin cancer, which attacks an estimated one in five Americans by age 65. One bright spot in this gloomy forecast is that not all sun-related skin damage is inevitable. Sunbrero can be a powerful force in keeping the appearance of sunburn, wrinkling, and other signs of skin damage in check. Its full-range UV protection deflects the sun's rays from vulnerable skin for sun-defiant action in addressing harmful ultraviolet radiation.

Much of the skin's gradual wrinkling and sagging - often blamed on aging in general - is actually an indicator of UV-induced skin damage. Even casual exposure to UV-saturated sunlight can result in greater harm to skin cells. As little as ten minutes in the sun (a brief stroll or an outdoor lunch break) can add to the damage that accumulates throughout a lifetime.

Sunbrero sunblock lotion provides full-spectrum ultraviolet protection by reflecting both UVB and UVA rays. Sunbrero is a UV-resistant lotion that has been formulated with the active ingredient zinc oxide to provide increased ultraviolet protection (SPF 30). Acting as a physical sunscreen or sunblock, this powerful yet safe mineral reflects harmful UV rays away from the skin. In this way, zinc oxide can help keep the skin cooler and reduce UV penetration.

For increased photo-protection - without mineral oils, PABA, or Benzene-based products (such as Benzophenone) which may lead to skin and photo-allergenic reactions - Sunbrero includes the active ingredients Octyl Methoxycinnamate and Octocrylene. Both of these chemical sunscreens absorb harmful rays to provide extra UV protection. Sunbrero's complete sunblock formula also contains water-repelling agents Clyclomethicone and PVP/Hexadecene Copolymer to help eliminate loss of ultraviolet protection due to perspiration or water contact.

Sunbrero gives full-range protection from both UVA and UVB rays with an SPF of 30+. SPF 30+ means that the regular amount of time of exposure to the sun that would cause skin damage is multiplied by thirty. This does NOT mean that you should stay in the sun thirty times as long, and Neways strongly advises against extended exposure to the sun. In addition, follow these sun safe tips.

SPF (Sun Protection Factor) and Sunscreens

When sun protection is mentioned, SPF is usually in the conversation. What is SPF? Why is it important? And how much of it is needed to protect the skin from the sun?

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. It is defined as the amount of sun exposure needed to cause slight erythema (redness) of the skin which has been protected with an application of 2mg/cm2 of sunscreen, divided by the amount of energy required to produce the same erythema on unprotected skin. It's complicated; but basically, what needs to be known is that the higher the SPF number, the more sunscreen protection.

Sun Safe Tips

Healthy skin is within reach, but to maintain skin health, the body must be taken care of both inside and out.

The sun's harmful rays that pierce through the deteriorating ozone layer can be filtered out by using sunscreens with sun protection factors of greater than 10, wearing protective clothing and staying out of the sun during extreme temperatures.

The skin can be nourished with protective antioxidants such as Vitamins A, C and E that are found naturally in foods or can be ingested via supplements such as Orachel and ProZinger.

During heat-filled days, moderation is key. It is not necessary to shy away from the outdoors. With proper skin protection, it is possible to take a step outside and enjoy all that nature has to offer.

In order to achieve maximum sun protection, it is important to take a few precautionary steps:

  • Stay in the shade whenever possible.
  • Avoid reflective surfaces, which can reflect up to 85 percent more of the sun's damaging rays.
  • Eat a natural whole foods diet high in vegetables and fruits and pay close attention to your intake of essential fatty acids. The types of fats we eat may determine how the body reacts to sunshine. A diet emphasizing oils rich in essential fatty acids, such as evening primrose and flax seed oils, protects skin against sun damage.
  • Restrict direct sunlight exposure to the early morning and late afternoon hours. Avoid spending time in the sun between 10 am and 3 pm.
  • Wear light-colored clothing made from natural fibers. They will reflect sunlight and help you stay cool.
  • A wide-brimmed hat to protect the eyes and face from direct sunlight is preferable to sunglasses. Optimal functioning of the endocrine system depends on the absorption of sunlight (including ultraviolet) through the eyes. Sunglasses disrupt this important physiological process and should only be worn when absolutely necessary, such as when driving a car or boat or snow skiing.
  • Build up a moderate suntan gradually by spending time outdoors in the early morning and late afternoon regularly.
  • A moderate, natural suntan offers effective skin protection and ensures optimal vitamin D levels.
